Abstract: (20 Views)
Introduction: Breast cancer, as the most common malignancy among women, is associated with extensive physical and psychological complications that can adversely affect patients’ self-care behaviors. This study aimed to explain the self-care needs of breast cancer survivors based on Orem's self-care theory.
Methods: This study was conducted using a qualitative approach with directed content analysis. Twenty-one women who had recovered from breast cancer in Dezful city were recruited through purposive sampling with maximum variation. Data were collected through semi-structured, in-depth interviews and continued until data saturation was achieved. Data analysis was performed manually using the Graneheim and Lundman method. To ensure scientific rigor, strategies including participant review (member checking), co-coding by peer researchers, and reflective note-taking were employed.
Results: In the final analysis, 12 codes, 5 sub-categories, and 3 categories were identified. The three main categories identified were universal self-care requisites, developmental self-care requisites, and health-deviation self-care requisites.
Conclusion: The findings suggest that self-care in breast cancer survivors is a multidimensional process that appears to be strongly shaped by cultural and religious contexts and the structure of Iran's health system.
